Michelle van Heerden obtained her B. Com Accounting (cum laude) with the Rand
Afrikaans University in 1992. In 1993 she obtained her B. Com Accounting
(Honours) also with the Rand Afrikaans University.
After completing her articles with PricewaterhouseCoopers, she qualified as a
Chartered Accountant in 1996. During October 1996 Michelle started specialising
in tax by joining PricewaterhouseCooper’s international tax division.
In 1998 she obtained her M. Com South African and International Taxation degree
with the Rand Afrikaans University. During her six years in the international
tax division she managed major international clients, providing tax opinions for
them on South African and International tax implications as well as writing
articles for technical magazines. During this period, Michelle also presented
numerous seminars locally and overseas as well as lectured taxation for Tukkies
Honours and Masters students. PricewaterhouseCoopers also sent Michelle on a
three month secondment to Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
In July 2002, Michelle joined the Rand Afrikaans University Honours team as a
taxation lecturer. She has also presented Tax Update courses for SAICA. Michelle is currently the Subject Head: Taxation at the University of Johannesburg.
